The goal is to maximize DS enrollment and institutionalize the process to enable enrollment in November. Logon via Knowledge Online will be replaced by DS Logon.
With a single username and password, DS Logon provides a high level of authentication that goes beyond a simple username and password. The system allows government agencies to provide users with personal information in real time.
Those eligible for a DS Logon account include: service members (active duty, Guard/Reserve, retired); Veterans; Spouse (including surviving spouse); and eligible family members 18 years of age or older.
Users must enroll in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System, known as DEERS, to obtain a DS Logon account. There are two types of accounts: Basic and Premium. A premium account allows users to access websites that contain personal information.

A basic account can be obtained online without identity verification, but it does not provide access to personal information in VA or DOD systems. The main benefit of a basic account is that it allows users to quickly upgrade to a premium account by going directly to a VA regional office or TRICARE service center.
To obtain a DS Logon account, users can visit "DS Logon - My Access Center" online at https://www.dmdc.osd.mil/appj/dsaccess. On the site, users can set up a basic account, or upgrade to a premium account.
The fastest and most convenient way to get a premium account is to complete the "remote proof process" on the site. This process involves using a secure ID, such as a Social Security number that users may already have, and answering three basic personal questions. CAC holders can upgrade their accounts instantly using their CACs.
Those who do not have a CAC and are unable to complete the remote proof process for some reason can request an activation code from the Defense Manpower Data Center if they have established a myPay account with the Defense Finance and Accounting Service.
