The staff at the Safety Support Center at the Columbus Morale, Wellness and Recreation Center have been working tirelessly to connect with customers and create meaningful content during the COVID-19 pandemic. After a 15-month closure, the staff at DSCC Fitness Center is excited to reopen its doors to customers in June. However, with restrictions on private group fitness classes and DSCC's workforce continuing to overwork, fitness center staff decided to find a creative way to bring their services to their clients and their homes.

Here it is! Wednesday Workouts launched last month and features short, weekly workout videos that can be combined or repeated to create personalized workouts for any fitness level. Host and DSCC MWR fitness trainer Rio Mino provides expert instruction on this growing series that includes Zumba, Kickboxing, Tabata Training, Yoga, Stepping and most recently the whole nine yards with some of DSCC's firefighters.
The fitness center and the DSCC Fire Department have had a long-standing relationship. After working out daily at the firefighter fitness center, Rio and colleagues Christina Lukegood came up with the idea of bringing some firefighters into the next WOW! Video. Firefighters Neil Cornett, Ryan Bellman and Richard Aldrich volunteered to participate, and now the October 20th WOW! Nine Yards Video.
"Making the video was all fun," Mino said. “We hope this video reaches a wider audience. Our WOW videos are for everyone, whether you're young or old, beginner or advanced, we just want everyone to get involved and have fun while being active.
The staff at DSCC MWR Fitness Center look forward to creating more WOW! Videos with the DSCC Fire Department, and may feature guest appearances from other DSCC organizations in the future.
